Tridens are perennial grasses that have flat to folded leaves with a prominent midrib. The plants range in height from 8" to 4'. Fluff grass occurs infrequently throughout North America. Flowering occurs from late June to late autumn depending on species, latitude and altitude. 3 to 13 flowers are in each spikelet. The flowers and later seeds are covered by 3-toothed hulls or lemmas (tridentate).
